Kannan - Yet to watch PKMC.... Heard some good words abt the movie. I really have no big expectations of HJ's background score. Anyway, let me see..

Shrikanth - True. In all his interviews he keeps talking abt the reach of the songs than the quality of music. Nice analysis. I too have a feeling that there is a sense of deja-vu in all his songs but have no knowledge in music to analysis to the level of swaras.

Shrikanth, what do you mean by same notes but different scales? The notes of Paartha muthal naale and and suttum vizhi (for instance) are not the same... Paartha mudhal naale starts off : paa ma ri ma ga ri sa ; Suttum vizhi starts off : sa ga ga sa ga ma paa. However, the scale for both, and indeed almost all HJ songs, are exactly the same (all white keys on keyboard if you start 'sa' at D.)
Perhaps you meant different notes same scale?

Btw, has anyone seen the movie yet? The background music is really well done, and far above what I have come to expect of HJ. Some hangover from Vettaiyadu, but overall a very good background score...

Suresh, I ahev already added the same in my Blog too yaar. HJ is stuck is somewhere. I remember him saying ( IN the vettaiyadu vilayadu cassette release) his father use to tell that songs must be in such a way that they should cover the audience. Just check his songs and try to play that in the Key boad. Same notes but in different scales. Ennai Konjam mattri, Uyirin Uyrie, Manjal Veyil Malayile, Paartha Mudhal naale, Suttrum Vizhi Sudare, Oru Maalai ila , X mAchi..... sing those songs in line very fast and you will find them tuned in the same set of swaras and notes

This is a pretty neat soundtrack and HJ has become the most dependable MD of TFM - only hope is that there was more variety and he is tested with different subjects.

BTW, have posted a different list of top songs - the others - which might interest u. Have a look when u have time at e-kirukkalgal.blogspot.com
