Bang on! On Harris Jayaraj and his stuff which is getting tiresomely repetitive.
And again nice, you adopted a casual styled talk rather than a formal one.
soooper review suresh……HJ needs to change his template pretty quick…..itts sooooo booooring…….but he is successful with this repetitive music only…….wonder whether he wud change this success formula???
Mild Resemblances: In ‘Un siripinil’ the line ‘unakkul irukkum mayakam…’ (first stanza first line) sounds way similar to the line ‘Aadaigal sumaidhaane adhai muzhudhum neeki vittu kuzhithaen’ from the song ‘Malargalae’ in Pudhukottailirudhu saravanan by YSR. And the male singer sounds very feminine in that track , I somehow disliked his voice in the first hearing itself.
By the way offtopic, I feel that Rahman’s Worldspace Tune is a re-use of his own ‘Adhisaya thirumanam’ from ‘Paarathalae paravasam’. Any comments?
i 1der how u echo my thots so well suresh!!!!!!but the saddest thing is the acceptance factor fm ” us” the audience makes “them” complacent u see the director and HJ know despite the ears getting bored and repetitiveness the album sells..who can ask for more???dil maange more!!! i liked naresh’s song as much as bb jayshree’s.
Sudhir – I too wonder the same. He has become a very reliable composer. His soundtracks are selling more than Rahman’s in south. But if he has to stay in the long run, he has to change. How long will people listen to the kids rhyms as love ballads?
Muthuvel – On very first listening, i found the similarity between ‘Malargale’ and ‘Unn Siripinil’. How many time can i keep telling about his plagiarism. But i thought it could be accidental considering the originality of the Pallavi lines and that is why i didn’t mention it.
Again, great find. Yes, ‘Athisaya Thirumanam’ and ‘Worldspace’ theme sounds exactly the same. Actually, i have heard that song from ‘Parthalae Paravasam’ only once. Also it is similar to Karthik Raja’s Kudaikkul Mazhai theme.
Rekhs – Yeah, i love Naresh Iyer’s ‘Kathal Konjam’. It is really cool though has traces of ‘Roobaroo’. My take on ‘Ooram Po’ is coming up in 30 minutes.
nice said.
The bad part about harrish is he is under utilizing bombay Jayshree kind of high end singer by making her to sing same base ( no experimentation nothing ) right from iruvar( this ARR ), minnale days.
Surprisingly Karthik is replaced this time by Naresh Iyer check out his interview in IndiaGlitaz not impressive at all. he is not ready for experimentation..
Thanks for ur comments. I just saw the whole interview of Harris Jeyaraj. One of the lines which he said explains everything about his attitude towards music, “People don’t like classy songs and classy singers, they just want interesting songs which is different from the other”.
I liked Naresh’s song – Kadhal Konjam…reminded me of Malayala karaiyoram situation for the “kadhal konjam” song…
I agree with Muthuvel about this song..robby/raphi’s voice sounds very feminine…but all of these songs are on repeat mode in my ipod right now..
I agree abt kids rhyms & love ballads , still all songs r in repeat mode in mine . When I listened to Roobaroo(Rang de Basanti) first, i felt “How come ARR never gave a song of this sort in tamil?” .. That song was really unique & wonderful! I think HJ also had felt the same, hence v r listening to “Kadhal Konjam” .. lol … Oh hey but itz really nice tho … Love that song ! … Just that HJ has again taken a leaf out of ARR.. and I appreciate him 4 that … ..
This is a pretty neat soundtrack and HJ has become the most dependable MD of TFM – only hope is that there was more variety and he is tested with different subjects.
BTW, have posted a different list of top songs – the others – which might interest u. Have a look when u have time at e-kirukkalgal.blogspot.com
Suresh, I ahev already added the same in my Blog too yaar. HJ is stuck is somewhere. I remember him saying ( IN the vettaiyadu vilayadu cassette release) his father use to tell that songs must be in such a way that they should cover the audience. Just check his songs and try to play that in the Key boad. Same notes but in different scales. Ennai Konjam mattri, Uyirin Uyrie, Manjal Veyil Malayile, Paartha Mudhal naale, Suttrum Vizhi Sudare, Oru Maalai ila , X mAchi….. sing those songs in line very fast and you will find them tuned in the same set of swaras and notes
Shrikanth, what do you mean by same notes but different scales? The notes of Paartha muthal naale and and suttum vizhi (for instance) are not the same… Paartha mudhal naale starts off : paa ma ri ma ga ri sa ; Suttum vizhi starts off : sa ga ga sa ga ma paa. However, the scale for both, and indeed almost all HJ songs, are exactly the same (all white keys on keyboard if you start ’sa’ at D.)
Perhaps you meant different notes same scale?
Btw, has anyone seen the movie yet? The background music is really well done, and far above what I have come to expect of HJ. Some hangover from Vettaiyadu, but overall a very good background score…
Shrikanth – True. In all his interviews he keeps talking abt the reach of the songs than the quality of music. Nice analysis. I too have a feeling that there is a sense of deja-vu in all his songs but have no knowledge in music to analysis to the level of swaras.
Have heard one english song today (i don’t remember the song name). It sounds as same as the starting music of Un Siripinil….. can anybody know that englist song name.
The comments and reviews found here make interesting reading. Iam gad so many think the same of HJ. Will try to follow this blog regularly. BTW Suresh will give my comments on the Marudhanayagam composition later.

Good Job Suresh!
The album is pretty much the usual HJ stuff. Infact a bit below par, I’d say
Kaadhal Konjem & Unnakkul Naan are the pick of the lot
I prefer “Unnale Unnale” to this. Love a couple of songs there…June Pona & Vaigaisi Nilave

Sadly it doesn’t feature SPB
but surprisingly has a song by Sonu Nigam
