Rahman’s Ada Remix

May 8, 2008 at 10:16 am (Audio blogs) (, , )

Rahman in collaboration with Nokia recently announced a remix contest in which we have to remix two songs from Rahman’s forthcoming Hindi soundtrack ‘Ada’. One minute clips of the two songs with just the vocals are available in remixrahmansada.com. In the same site, Nokia XpressMusic mixer is also available, which we can use to remix the songs. With XpressMusic mixer it just takes a few seconds to make the remix which makes it restricting, less challenging and more fun. We can also create our own remix and upload it. I created my remix (without using Nokia XpressMusic mixer). I don’t know if my version is at par, but it just feels good to arrange a Rahman’s composition.

Inspiration

August 14, 2007 at 5:05 am (Audio blogs)

There is a short story or rather a revelation behind how the working title of this song ‘Flying High’ got changed to ‘Inspirations’. Recently, I got my passport after 3+ years since I applied for it (the getting passport is a big story which I reserve for a novel) and I was so happy. When I informed about this to one of my friends who use to make fun of me and my music, he casually asked me to compose music for this situation for feeling happy about getting the passport. At that moment, I just laughed at his comment thinking that as usual he is making fun of me. But later tunes started running in my mind.

I was searching for those notes which could convey my ecstasy I had at that point of time. John Williams ‘Flight to Neverland’ theme and flying theme from E.T. all are running in my mind to study the way these pieces are orchestrated. But what I finally have done is far from ecstatic. Even while composing and arranging it, I realized that this tune doesn’t have any trace of ecstasy but what made it even worse is that it sounds sad though not as sad as one of my previous works ‘When Tears Cry..’. But I just went on with my flow and decided to complete it fast and I did.

‘Inspiration’ is my fastest work so far and a self indulgent one too. Good thing is that the moment I realized that this tune doesn’t have the feel I was thinking of, I just did all ornamentation works what the feel of the tune demands instead of trying to mould into what I intended to do. Finally, the day before completing it, I had serious thought about how I made such a sad song when I was in between some of most interesting, challenging and satisfying moments of my life. Psychologically, an artist’s work should reflect his state of mind. I composed a sad tune when I am in an extremely different mood. This is not applicable for those professional composers for whom there are instructors above them who tell what feel they want from the song but here I don’t have anyone instructing me about the feel of the song except that I started with a thought of coming with a song reflecting my ecstasy.

Answer is rather simple, I am not a full fledged composer but just an amateur or a beginner who tries in his own way to create some pleasing songs (at least to him). All these serious conversations in my mind led to one big realization that at this stage when I am still a PreKG student in music, all my compositions are driven by inspirations and just inspirations and nothing else. This piece is heavily inspired by love theme from ‘Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon’ and ‘Michelle’s theme’ from Black (Hindi) two of  my all time favorite compositions.

Now you know why I named it as ‘Inspiration’. Infact all my previous works are heavily inspired and I know the exact sources. So, now to my inspiration….

I don’t know if the feel of this music in anyway is related to patriotism or Independence Day but in our 60th year of independence, I would like to dedicate this work of mine to thousands of soldiers who braved their souls for us to live such a free independent and peaceful life in India. This is a sincere salute of an Indian to all those real heroes.

Karoke

June 11, 2007 at 4:20 pm (Audio blogs)

If you are a regular reader of my other blog, you should know the reason for my absence in the blogosphere for a longtime. Anyway, here I am back to post something, just to announce that I am fine and back. This music will sound like a karoke of a song but the problem is that the actual song was never made. I was trying for past 6 months to compose this song, but I couldn’t get even an acceptable tune. The problem is initially when I got my first tune (very bad), I did the entire orchestration for the song. And now it is very difficult for me to compose a listenable new tune for the song which would exactly fit in this orchestration. But, I have composed a new tune for the song which requires a whole new kind of orchestration and arrangements and hopefully I will start working on it soon. So, for now get ready for a different and a could-be-boring(piece is of 5 minutes length) experience.

Still…

March 20, 2007 at 3:03 pm (Uncategorized)

Even before composing ‘Marudhanayagam‘ I started composing a Tamil song ( a conventional one with vocals) but even after three versions, it hasn’t come out well. There are many more in the pipeline. Right now I am working on an instrumental again. Have been thinking about developing a different orchestral version of Marudhanyagam theme. Also I often think about re-working on ‘When Tears Cry...’. The problem is that I am not concentrating on anyone at a time and that is why every piece is getting delayed. I don’t know how film musicians do it by composing for a variety of songs for different movies at a time. Anyway, I hope i will post my next one in 2 or 3 weeks. Let me try.

Marudhanayagam Trailer Music

February 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm (Video)

I always have this fascination for background score for movies. Few months ago, i saw the stunning trailer of Kamal Haasan’ s could-have-been a magnum opus film ‘Marudhanayagam‘. I thought it could have been if it had music by our Maestro Illayaraja. With hungary symphony orchestra, sure I was sure IR would have done John Williams kind of stuff in this film. Anyway, my music for this trailer is very simplistic and just plays to the overall mood of the frames in the trailer. Hope you like it. And don’t forget to drop in your comments.
